Review: The Shadow – Episodes 1 & 2

The Shadow – Ep. 1

The first part of Eric Hunter’s new web series is a creepy HALLOWEEN knock-off in which we watch Ahad being stalked by some lurking presence with a ghoulish mask (or is it his face?).

Not much of it necessarily makes sense as far as how the character behaves, but the makers display skill at manipulating light and dark, foreground and background and they offer up some effective jolts. The theme music makes it feel more like an eighties movie, but maybe that’s what they’re going for.

I’m curious what dark corridors this one will lead us down…

The Shadow – Ep. 2

When we last tuned in, Ahad was attacked and presumably killed……

The web series continues, this time with Ahad’s friends being stalked by the same unexplained lurking ghoul.

It still doesn’t make a whole lot of sense (why are the two friends sitting in a dark car in Ahad’s dark garage?), but what’s here is spookily effective with the viewer never knowing which shadow the danger will emerge from. One character makes a cheeky reference to BLAIR WITCH, which at least shows that the makers are aware of what they’re ripping off. I jumped out of my seat once, so that’s gotta be worth something.

Let’s see what happens next…

Be sure to tune in December 26th for Episode #3!!
